Ancestry logo
Ancestry was originally written for the Acorn Risc OS range of computers by the late Graham Crow.

His tragic and untimely death in 1998 meant that he was unable to complete his programming projects: Ancestry+ and Ancestry 3.

I feel greatly privileged to have been asked to continue the project where Graham left off.

I would like to dedicate future development of Ancestry+, leading eventually to the release of Ancestry 3 during 1999, to Graham's memory.

By carrying on his project, I hope that I may bring his hard work and effort to fruition for the benefit of all Acorn Risc OS users.

What is Ancestry+?

Ancestry is a genealogical database for all Acorn computers fitted with Risc OS 3.1 or later.
It is built upon the foundations laid by the original Ancestry 1, sold by Minerva Software. The main enhancement made to Ancestry+ is it's ability to run within the RISC OS wimp environment.

Availability

Ancestry+ has now been renamed to Ancestor+ and is available from APDL.
Due to time constraints and financial considerations, Ancestor+ is being developed in-house by APDL and I am no longer actively involved in the project.

Current Development

However, my original involvement with Graham came about because of a personal need for a decent (ie to rival the PC ones!) genealogy application. To this end I am currently developing a major multi-media authoring/database application which will function as a complete genealogical solution in its own right. The purpose of this is two fold; a) I want a decent, up to date database to manage some personal projects and b) I still want a decent 'Ancestry' application. The purpose of combining the two will save development time and also provide a solid platform to develop a long-term multi-media database application.
This will hopefully be fully GEDCOM compatible as well as being capable of generating reports and even complete web-based solutions.
I hope to make some screenshots available as soon as I have something demonstrable.

Mailing List

If you would like additional information or chat with other genealogists I have set up a mailing list to which potential customers or anyone interested in the project can join, in order to share ideas, offer suggestions, find out current development or simply suggest things to go on the development wish list.

If you would like to subscribe, please send email to Ancestry@vigay.com with the subject line Subscribe Ancestry list <your email address>
